EDUCATION: DOOR TO THE FUTURE
Ignorance prevents people from improving their lives and is thereby the biggest impediment to a nation’s development. Most of the problems faced by our world today, stem from mass ignorance. Poverty, diseases, over population, violence, ecological crisis and intolerance are all fallout of lack of knowledge and comprehension.
It is our firm belief that training and education are essential to professional development and that education is a building block for change. We support education initiatives directed at our employees as well as the people and communities around us. The variety of projects our Company supports reflects the difference in needs of the communities in which we are active. From providing schools with computers and books, renovating schools, encouraging sport activities, creating learning opportunities within the business, to employees taking on the role of coach and mentor, our Company looks for practical and effective means of contributing to the community.
OGDCL enters an operational area with the basic objective of upliftment of communities. The Company undertakes many initiatives that supports education and equips the local populace to generate work and help to build a robust and diverse economy.
CONSTRUCTION OF GIRL’S HOSTEL AT QUAID-I-AZAM UNIVERSITY, ISL
OGDCL has denoted an amount of Rs. 58.82 million for the construction of Girl’s Hostel at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad during the year 2014. The construction work is in progress.
2. PROVISION OF FURNITURE, ELECTRIFICATION AND CONSTRUCTION OF CLASSROOMS FOR GOVERNMENT PRIMARY SCHOOL DHOKE RAJIAN
OGDCL spent an amount of Rs. 1.260 million for the provision of furniture, electrification and construction of classrooms for Government Primary School Dhoke Rajian at Rajian Oil Field during the year 2013-14. OGDCL also spent an amount of Rs. 2.013 million for construction of boundary wall, water tank, water cooler at Government Girls High School Chapri Tehsil Jand, District Attock at Dakhni Oil and Gas Field during the year 2013-14.
3. PROVISION OF VARIOUS EQUIPMENT TO GOVERNMENT HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL UMER DAHU, DISTRICT GHOTKI
OGDCL spent an amount of Rs. 1.955 million for provision of various equipment (electric water coolers, ceiling fans, multimedia projector, microscope and furniture) to Government Higher Secondary School Umer Dahu, District Ghotki during 2013-14.
4. EDUCATION - PROVISION OF COMPUTERS, PRINTER AND CONSTRUCTION OF CLASS ROOM FOR GOVERNMENT HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, CHANDA KHURRAM
OGDCL, under its CSR program, constructed a class room, provided computers and printer at Government Higher Secondary School Chanda Khuram, Karak, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KPK). Mr. Gul Sahib Khan Khattak, MPA Karak, was the Chief Guest of the event. Mr. Umer Kundi, District Education Officer, Karak and other notables of the area were also invited to grace the occasion. They appreciated OGDCL's efforts for the betterment of the area, particularly in education. The principle of the school thanked the Management of OGDCL for extending supporting hands.
5. PROVISION OF UNIFORMS AND COPIES TO STUDENTS OF GOVERNMENT PRIMARY SCHOOL YOUSAF KHOSO, UNION COUNCIL TANDO HAIDER, DISTRICT HYDERABAD.
OGDCL has always supported educational activities within its operational areas. The company has recently donated Rs. 0.295 million for the provision of uniforms and copies to the students. The distribution of items was made by OGDCL officials along with District Management among the needy students of Government Primary School in November 2012.
6. DISTRIBUTION OF SCHOOL ITEMS TO AL REHMAN PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL, DISTRICT GHOTKI.
Company spent an amount of Rs.514,000/- for provision of school Items i.e Computer set, Generator, Electric water cooler and Multimedia Projector to depriving and needy students of Al-Rehman Public (Model) High School, Mullah Chutto Kalwar Kohuhara Distt. in a simple but graceful ceremony which was attended by District Education Officer (Mr. Inyatullah Khahuaro), Dy. Director (School & Colleges) Distt. Ghotki, notables of the area, and parents of the students. RC Sukkur (Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Mangrio) was also present on the occasion.
7. PROVISION OF BOOKS, UNIFORMS AND SCHOOL BAGS TO FC PUBLIC SCHOOLS DERA BUGTI.
OGDCL spent Rs. 6.928 million for provision of books, uniforms and school bags to the meritorious students of Dera Bugti. Students from four (04) FC schools were selected. FM Pirkoh, Mr. Maqsood Ahmad honoured the occasion and distributed the articles. This activity was warmly hailed by local notables and FC high ups.
8. PETROLEUM TECHNICAL INSTITUTE.
To uplift the education standard of far flung areas where children are generally unable to access quality education facility, OGDCL upgraded the Petroleum Technical Training Institute in Khairpur, Sindh, at an estimated cost of Rs 40.165 million.
It funded the establishment of four fully equipped laboratories:
• Production and Drilling lab.
• Oil and gas testing lab.
• Computer lab.
• Instrumental lab along with relevant text books /software and audio visual aid. In future Petroleum Technical Institute will provide diverse learning opportunities that will assist in capacity building for the people of the area.
9. BALOCHISTAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION (BITE).
To promote technical education in Balochistan, OGDCL provided financial assistance amounting to Rs. 5.00 million to BITE in order to train unskilled people and to educate jobless young people. The Company aimed to implement a community-driven development initiative across the country, focusing on the weaker and more deprived communities.
10. TECHNICAL TRAINING SCHOOL AT BALOCHISTAN AND KARAK.
OGDCL has two Technical training institutes at Karak and in Quetta, where local boys are being provided training in field of the petroleum industry at an annual expenditure of about Rs.5.185 million. In these Institutions, about 200 students are annually trained in various fields of oil & gas industry a monthly stipend is also provided to them
